Education Credential Assessment
According to the Canadian immigration law, credentials obtained overseas must be authenticated at a designated certification organization and be certified as equivalent to a Canadian degree before claiming any Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points for immigration through Express Entry .
We usually choose World Education Services (WES), a Toronto-based world education service, which has the most efficient processing time and can certify the highest degree. There are also other optional academic certification agencies available. For example, clients who apply for immigration with medical or pharmacy work experience need to be certified by MCC, PEBC or other institutions. Below are some common questions:
No! Education credentials obtained in Canada that can be worth extra immigrations points, such as college diplomas, advanced diplomas, bachelor degrees, master degrees, graduate diplomas, etc., does not require an ECA.
"Dual degrees" will be worth significantly more points in the Express Entry scoring system. If the applicant has a bachelor's degree in China and completes a college or postgraduate diploma in Canada, an ECA certification for the Chinese bachelor's degree is required. If the applicant has a bachelor's degree in China and a master's degree in Canada, ECA certification is not required.
- If you have a degree, you can get a free Chinese verification report from Tsinghua University’s China Academic Degrees and Graduate Education Development Center (CDGDC).
- If you do not have a certificate for bachelor’s degree (only a graduation diploma), go to the “China Credentials Verification” website and get a free Chinese verification report.
In addition to the degree information, education information and verification report, you need to ask the school to mail your transcript directly to the Canadian Education Credential Assessment agency; or you can send your transcript in its original sealed envelope stamped with the school seal. For transcripts that are not in English or French, translation and notarization are required.
- China Credentials Verification website: For college and other degrees without a degree certificate, the electronic report is usually ready on the same day.
- Tsinghua University’s China Academic Degrees and Graduate Education Development Center: For undergraduate and above degree certificates, it generally takes 18-22 business days to process.
Get Your Verifications Reports Early! Avoid the Chinese Holidays and Non-Business Hours!
ECAs are required for non-Canadian credentials when applying for immigration to Canada, including credentials from U.S.A, U.K. and other commonwealth countries. Under normal circumstances, in the countries mentioned above, the applicant is only required to request their school to send the sealed original copies of the transcripts and other documents to the Canadian ECA organization (e.g., WES). At the same time, the applicant needs to colour-scan the degree certificate or graduation certificate, transcript and other materials, and fax them to the ECA organization.
Yes, you can! A 4-year undergraduate degree can be assessed as a 3-year advanced diploma in Canada. For master's degrees, the graduation certificate is equivalent to the post-graduate certificate in Canada, which can be worth bonus points under "double degree." A master’s degree certificate can be certified as a master degree in Canada.
Yes, you can! As long as you have graduated, your grades (whether good or bad) do not affect your ECA.
Normally, it takes 20-22 business days for a Canadian ECA organization to process an application after receiving all the materials.
Normally, immigration authorities will not keep a copy of your transcript submitted when you apply for a school or study visa. In recent years, however, immigration authorities have increased penalties for "false statements." Section 40 of the Immigration Act makes clarifies this point. In this case, we suggest:
- If you have submitted a false transcript, make a correction as soon as possible.
- Falsified documents cannot be authenticated; there are no "flukes"!
- Look at other immigration program options that do not require proof of education – such as, most provincial nomination programs.

Affidavits, Translations and Certified True Copies
在递交联邦或各省提名类移民申请材料准备过程中,有些需要在监誓官的见证下签字确认。常见的宣誓类别有:
Common-Law Statutory Declaration | The cohabiting couple solemnly declares in front of the commissioner of oaths that they have lived together for at least 1 year and will maintain their cohabiting relationship. |
Affidavit Concerning Guardianship | The guardian declares that the he/she is willing to undertake the duty of care and dealing with emergency situations during the period when the applicant is studying abroad. |
Authentication/Legalization of Immigration Documents | The immigration applicant swears before the commissioner of oaths that the immigration documents submitted are complete and authentic. |
Affidavit for Court Documents | In a judicial review of immigration, the applicant makes a solemn oath to the authenticity of the appeal documents. |
Documents Required for Visa Renewal | Photocopy of Re-entry visa and study permit |
In the process of reviewing immigration documents, the immigration department sometimes requires the applicant to provide "certified true photocopies". At this point, the commissioner of oaths will confirm that the copy is exactly the same as the original, state their official position/title and their name, the date they certified the document, and sign after writing the statement, "This photocopy is a true copy of the original document which has not been altered in any way."
We do not provide translation services for immigration documents. Applicants need to have documents translated and provide us with a translated copy. After verifying the translation, we issue the certified copy. The federal government of Canada requires that the person providing the certified copy not be related to the applicant.
However, some provinces do not recognize such certified translations. For example, Ontario only recognizes certified translations issued by the Association of Translators and Interpreters of Ontario (ATIO), or translations issued by the notary public office of China. Quebec also has similar policies.
